The French left back made a significant step forward last season by making his first starts in the Premier League and Champions League.
Before then the defender had been a part of Arsène Wenger’s squad and a Carling Cup regular but full games against Sevilla and Steaua Bucharest early in the campaign suggested that Wenger wanted to test him further.
Armand has all the attributes to be a excellent defender in the modern game. He is powerfully built, fast and attack-minded. Perhaps he still needs to learn the craft of the position but experience can not be learned on the training pitch, only matches can give it to you and Armand is becoming more and more involved. This season he will gain valuable experience while on loan at Portsmouth.
Signed from Monaco in 2006, he has represented France at Under-17, Under-18s and Under-19 level.
He began last season by scoring a spectacular 40-yarder against Fulham in the Reserves and ended it by supplying a pin-point cross for Nicklas Bendtner the score the winner against Everton in the final home game of the campaign.
